Xiamen Topstar Lighting Co., Ltd. is one of the top light bulb manufacturers in China. The company is a joint venture co-invested by General Electric Company (GE) and the state-owned Xiamen Light Industrial Group Co., Ltd. The venture is GE's first direct investment project in Mainland China. Its manufacturing facility went into production in October 2007, at same time GE shut down its incandescent bulb plants in Circleville, Ohio, US. Since then Topstar Lighting has been one of the industry's leading CFL bulb manufacturers and an important production base in GE's global supply chain of consumer lighting business.

Encompassing 550,000 square meters, Topstar Lighting's massive, integrated manufacturing facility translates to a huge production capacity. The company's CFL bulb production capacity had once accounted for 20 percent of the global capacity. The rapid transition to LED lighting technology posed a significant challenge to the once CFL-centric manufacturer. The company lagged behind its comptitiors such as Yankon and Leedarson in the overseas market penetration of LED lighting products.
