Yeolight Technology specializes in OLED lighting with its technology portfolio rooted from the intellectual property of Beijing-based Tsinghua University, which set up its OLED Project Team in 1996. In 2015 the OLED lighting department was spun off from Visionox, Tsinghua's OLED technology commercialization company, to form Yeolight Technology that embarked on a different roadmap from Visionox who focuses on OLED display solutions including AMOLED and PMOLED. In September 2016 Yeolight's 2.5-Gen OLED production line went into trial operation. The manufacturing facility located in Gu'an, Hebei province of China covers an area of 27,950 square meters. The initial investment for this project was RMB 400 millions.

With well over 10 years of research and development in organic light-emitting diodes for lighting applications, the Yeolight team has overcome the bottlenecks that prevented the scaling from lab to mass production. Yeolight's white OLEDs are developed with proprietary materials to optimize the charge carrier mobility as well as exciton recombination without piling up carriers at the interface between different materials. Innovative bipolar host materials with multielectron transport benzimidazole units are employed to ensure low operating voltages and high power efficiency. By using a tandem (stacking) device configuration the resistance of the OLED device is greatly reduced and the uniformity of the white OLED panel is remarkably improved. Although a tandem structure contributes to the high brightness and long lifetime of OLED lighting devices, the increased complexity of the tandem structures incurred an extra cost in manufacturing. By leveraging the intellectual and technological expertise of Tsinghua University and consistent in-house research, Yeolight created innovative solutions for controlled manufacturing cost in mass-production stages.

The company's hybrid encapsulation technology enables OLED devices to be built on ultrathin, flexible plastic substrates while effectively offsetting the permeation of oxygen and moisture that may decay the light panels. Through optimized thin film deposition process and the materials used herein, the strength of flexible OLED panels has been considerably improved to withstand repeated bending which is a very practical issue. Flexible OLED panels create freedom of expression for designers and architects. Yeolight strives to cultivate its competitive advantages in bendable OLED lighting to increase the chances of future successes.

In addition to seeking breakthrough in general lighting, Yeolight's research and development of efficient and long-time stable red iridium complexes for organic light-emitting diodes have yielded application-level results in the automotive lighting industry. The company's 0.1 mm flexible OLED panel was specifically designed for automotive rear lighting applications. With improved external quantum efficiency (EQE), reduced roll-off properties, and features like dynamic lighting, Yeolight's OLED taillights offer superior efficacy and design flexibility without sacrificing color quality.

Yeolight Technology began to cooperate with Xingyu since 2019 and provide automotive taillight OLED illuminant for Hong Qi H9 automobile exclusively. On January 8, 2020, Hong Qi H9 was officially unveiled in The Great Hall of the People. Hong Qi H9 adopts the new design concept of the new Hong Qi family and reflects the traditional classic Chinese aesthetics. The taillight shape adopts the OLED taillight design and it is the first production car in China to adopt OLED taillights.

Hong Qi H9 taillights feature a total of 8 OLED screens, with the left and right lights arranged in a mirror image, and each side contains 4 OLED screens arranged in parallel. Each OLED screen contains 5 light-emitting zones which can be individually illuminated. By controlling each zone independently, different graphic illumination patterns and illumination effects, such as flowing water, breathing, rhythm and fading can be realized. This enriches the on-board design language.

In November 2021, Yeolight Technology and ST Microelectronics collaborated to launch the new OLED digital taillights, which were unveiled at the 4th CIIE (China International Import Expo). The retrofitted taillights based on the Leapmotor C11 were the first fully functional and digitalized automotive OLED taillights, with a total of 1,434 differently shaped pixel points. This allows for dynamic and beautiful interaction and decorative functions, customized welcome and farewell functions, and crystal-clear driving contour functions. And this fully demonstrated the possibility of realizing the indication by OLED for braking, steering and reversing functions.

Yeolight held over 450 domestic patents, 9 licensed patents and 4 PCT applications.Among these domestic patents, 281 are invention patents, accounting for 63% of the total. The patents cover the fields of materials, devices, circuits, processes, equipment and photobiological beauty. Its key technologies and core patents can support the production of Yeolight OLED lighting and photobiological research and cope with market competition.
